The art of creation: my process

At Sparrow Wood Studio, every piece begins with a spark of inspiration and a deep love for the craft. My process is a journey I cherish, from the initial sketch to the final stroke or print. It's about letting the idea guide the medium, ensuring each artwork truly conveys its essence. Join me as I share the deliberate steps and heartfelt dedication behind my oil paintings and lino cut prints.

From concept to production: sketching the idea

Every masterpiece, whether oil or lino cut, begins with a humble sketch. This is where ideas take shape, where light and shadow are first explored, and where the narrative of the artwork is born. It's the critical first step in my process, drawing out the vision before committing it to its chosen medium and deciding how the image would best be conveyed.

A delicate process: from carving to printing

Carving takes time, attention and pressure. Every line and dot must be carved with detail and patience. One slip and there goes the image! Proofing allows for feedback on the progress gained, and overall image quality.

Lacey's Painting Process

Patience is the name of the game with oil painting. Adding luminous layers, depth is built by blending  soft colors with care.  The time spent painting is matched by the time spent waiting for paint to dry. Once the layout of the painting is completed, the detail stage can begin. This is when the paintings truly starts to take shape and come to life.

Every brushstroke, every carved line, a testament to the time and passion invested in art.

At Lacey Wood Art, dedication is woven into every piece. It takes a lot of time to produce a finished piece, a commitment that shines through in the quality of my oil paintings and lino cut prints. Explore the finished works in the gallery.
